The Canadian Screen Awards announced its first-ever nominees today. The new awards will replace the Gemini and Genie awards and honour achievements in Canadian film and television. IO members nominated are Shaftesbury, Smiley Guy Studios/iThentic, TVO, Nerd Corps Entertainment, Teletoon, Cookie Jar Entertainment, DHX Media, Astral, Radical Sheep Productions, Rogers Communications, White Pine Pictures, CFC, and CBC. Interact Networking Mixer at Bento Miso - January 22

MEIC's Mobile Accelerator Program

We have two exciting keynote speakers lined up for GameON: Finance 2013, our conference on the business of games taking place on January 29 & 30 in Toronto.

Feargus Urquhart will join us to discuss his experiences in the gaming industry, including 10 years as CEO of Obsidian, who recently raised almost $4 million through Kickstarter for their game Project Eternity. Feargus and Obsidian were recently profiled for Kotaku.

Charles Hudson will deliver a keynote entitled "Why investors hate your game (and how to succeed anyway)." Charles is a Venture Partner with SoftTech VC and is focused on mobile and gaming investments. He is also the Co-Founder and CEO of Bionic Panda Games

IO member Get Set Games partners with Pixar and Disney on Monsters, Inc. Run

The Verge has a piece on Get Set Games' partnership with Pixar and Disney on a Monsters, Inc. branded game. Disney/Pixar contracted Get Set to create Monsters, Inc. XMG launches The Mu$ic Biz

Just launched, The Mu$ic Biz is mobile game that comes as the result of a collaboration between director Sudz Sutherland and XMG Studio. The game allows users to build a music business and create their own sounds. It also features beats by producers Rich Kidd (Drake, K-OS),  Mr. Porter (Eminem) and others.
