From March 9th -13th 2010 I was fortunate to be able to attend GDC San Francisco. It was five days of lectures, panels, tutorials and roundtable discussions on a comprehensive selection of game development topics taught by leading industry experts. GDC San Francisco is the largest of the GDC conferences in the world, with an estimated 18,000 attendees, 400 lectures, and many panels, tutorials, and roundtable discussions.

Spongelab Interactive and the Biodiversity Institute (University of Guelph) are finalists in the MacArthur Foundation 2010 International Digital Media Learning Competition for their social networking game called the Biodiversity Challenge. The game is designed to help create student scientists by doing real science in the International Barcode of Life Project (iBOL).

The St. Catharines company will use the money to create a new high-end game for multiple platforms and will immediately create 65 additional jobs.

Glenn Wong Appointed to Canada Media Fund Board of Directors

April 6, 2010 (Toronto) - The Canada Media Fund today announced that Glenn Wong has been appointed to the funding agency's Board of Directors. Nominated by the Department of Canadian Heritage, Mr. Wong is an executive management consultant and former President of Electronic Arts Canada and Rogers Cable TV (BC).

Coming to Toronto's libraries: video games
Make room, Holden Caulfield and Huck Finn, Sonic the Hedgehog is moving in. The Toronto Public Library is searching for close to $300,000 to start a circulating video game collection, as well as to set up gaming programs at eight branches across the city.

Canada Media Fund Ready to Support TV, Digital Media Projects

The new Canada Media Fund (CMF) will officially open for business on April 1, 2010. It will be the source of federal government funding for media projects, which are expected to be developed for multiple delivery platforms, such as TV and the Internet.
The CMF comes as a result of combining and rebranding the former Canadian Television Fund and the Canada New Media Fund. Its mandate is to both ensure the production of quality content, and to make it available on multiple platforms, not solely television. Full Story at Mediacaster
