| Description | TVO, Ontarios publicly funded education media organization, uses the power of media technologies to support education in Ontario. TVOKids.com, TVOs award-winning educational website for pre-school and school age children is looking for a talented and creative candidate to fill a New Media Specialist II staff position. The ideal candidate will enjoy working on online games, and possesses strong design skills with respect to gaming environment, and has experience with interface design and branding. The applicant must demonstrate a natural interest in: fun, educational and engaging content, for children ages 2 to 12. Experience in 3D design and design usability are definite assets. The New Media Specialist II will primarily be responsible for creating the look and feel, and visual design of interactive projects including: creating games on tvokids.com, collaborating in keeping the site fresh, and participating in brainstorming sessions for new content. In addition, the position will evaluate interactive products produced by third parties. Scope: Works with the project manager and production teams to define ideas visually in wireframes and mock-ups. Analyzes and understands project content requirements, and performs regular reviews of graphics that have been created. Designs games that are intended for children ages 2 to 12. Designs page and site structures and integrates using Flash and Drupal. Fully understands New Media and User Centered Design and its application for the needs of a broadcaster presenting it online. Reacts to special requests from programming and/or marketing communications and integrates them into tvokids.com. Regularly evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement to existing Interactive Design processes and procedures, and understands global responsibilities common to all Interactive Designers. Performs other directly related duties as required. |
| Qualifications | Major Duties and Responsibilities: Brainstorm content ideas, write copy, develop and support web activities for the daily live show Create characters, treatments, storylines, gameplay, and elements, including but not limited to; promotional areas, polls, book clubs, activities, games, daily show ticker, features and contests Create simple interactive material and animation Configure promotional material using templates Draw, scan, build, and perform layout of creative visual content Recommend technology and development tools Coordinate compilation of digital elements into interactive pieces Coordinate digitization of promotional videos to be used online Edit and compress digital video and audio Test new software and techniques Write technical summaries, creative documents and process reviews May record video or stills Participate in developing and deploying new research and reporting tools Assist in the maintenance of the Search Engine Optimization strategy Coordinate the editing and mixing of audio and video elements to be used on the web Perform other directly related duties. Qualifications: Minimum 2 to 4 years of work experience in a web design/support environment, with hands-on experience working specifically for a childrens website Must have an advanced understanding of user interface design and an interest or expertise in childrens online experience Industry certification or appropriate education (or equivalent experience) Expertise with the following software: Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver 3D animation knowledge a definite asset A skill set in web development, design and site management Proficiency with HTML, XML, web content management systems, and video editing software an asset Multiplatform experience Understanding of servers and database connectivity an asset Working knowledge of online production and publishing processes Experience in programming in AS3 a definite asset Experience in a broadcast environment an asset Motivated, with the ability to work unsupervised and in highly collaborative teams Demonstrate flexibility with work assignments, work quickly, efficiently, establish priorities, and work effectively under pressure to meet tight and shifting timelines Proven self-starter with excellent interpersonal, time management and people management skills Strong problem solving, analytical and client service skills Written/oral communication and presentation skills necessary, coupled with the ability of articulating concepts to clients and internal teams Ability to work with and mentor other new media professionals Thorough knowledge and ability to conduct common testing practices across computer platforms and environments Able to clearly document processes and techniques Adept at handling constructive criticism and making the required changes. |
