| Description | The Ontario Arts Council is a publicly funded arm’s-length agency of Ontario’s Ministry of Culture whose primary purpose is to award grants to professional artists and arts organizations. The ideal candidate is an accomplished Communications Coordinator with a specialized knowledge of planning, development, implementation and evaluation of effective media, government and public relations programs. The individual’s primary focus is to promote the programs and activities of OAC in support of corporate objectives and to plan, coordinate and implement programs and initiatives to enhance awareness, understanding and appreciation of Ontario Arts Council amongst a wide variety of audiences (Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPS), government officials, media, clients, other stakeholders and the public).

| Qualifications | The successful candidate would be a results-oriented person with strong ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities. A post secondary education in public relations, communications, English, or journalism; and 5+ years of proven related experience is required. Experience working with government and government protocols; strong planning skills; excellent writing and public presentation skills; demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with media; and the ability to organize and co-ordinate public events or special functions. Tact, judgment and discretion and demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain consultative relationships are necessary. Excellent verbal communications skills in English and French and excellent English writing and editing skills to produce a variety of documents such as news releases, speeches, reports, advertising copy etc. Proficiency working with Microsoft Word and Excel are essential. General knowledge and appreciation of the arts is expected. Certification by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is an asset.
