He wrote, produced and directed 40+ award-winning podcasts for Shaftesbury’s hit Disney/Family series “Life With Derek” and has directed and produced online video content for major brands including Motorola, Toyota, Spin Master, and Hellman’s. |
![]() Gavin McGarry Jumpwire Media | Moderator - Before founding Jumpwire Media in 2009, McGarry worked for online video start up Joost and was the Head of Cross Platform Business Development at global television production company Endemol. Jumpwire Media, is a cross media agency that specializes in helping companies build strategies to profit from the emerging digital market place on the mobile, social media, gaming, and web video platforms. Clients include: Discovery Communications (USA), Digital Access (Russia), and MNET (South Africa), melt (UK). McGarry has a been working in the media space for over 15 years. His past experience includes positions at major television networks as well as owning and operating a television production company and an advertising agency. His company created some of the first cross media TV content and worked with major networks including NBC, Discovery, CTV, and Global Television. The full service ad agency serviced two national clients and explored integrating brands into television and online properties. In 2004 he moved from his native Canada to the UK to better understand the rapidly emerging mobile phone space. Through his position at Endemol, he worked closely with the UK’s largest mobile operator, O2, and helped develop leading edge content for multiple platform release. In 2007 he moved into the web video arena with Joost. He has spent time in Japan, Africa, Europe and China exploring and understanding the global digital media content market place. |
![]() Norm Bolen President & CEO CFTPA | Norm Bolen is currently the President and CEO of the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA), based in Ottawa. The CFTPA represents Canada’s independent film, television and interactive producers. Norm is the former Executive Vice President, Content, for Alliance Atlantis Communications. At Alliance Atlantis he had overall programming responsibility for thirteen Canadian specialty networks: Showcase, History Television, Slice, HGTV, Food Network Canada, BBC Canada, BBC Kids, Discovery Health Channel, National Geographic Channel, Independent Film Channel, Showcase Action, Showcase Diva and Fine Living Television. Norm was also responsible for Alliance Atlantis' web based and emerging new media content and all Broadcast Operations. Prior to joining Alliance Atlantis in 1997, Norm spent 21 years at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a journalist and executive. In his last position at the CBC he was the head of Network Television Current Affairs. In that role, he had overall responsibility for CBC Television’s Documentary Department. Norm is a current Board member and past Chair of the Banff World Television Festival and the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival, a Director of the National Screen Institute and a Director of the ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society. Until recently, he was also a Director of mDialog, a web-based high-resolution video distribution platform that's optimized for the iPhone. |
![]() Jeff Young Head of Finance and Business Development Starz Animation Toronto | Jeff Young joined Starz Animation Toronto as Vice President, Finance, in 2007, and has subsequently expanded his role into business development and strategy. Since taking on these responsibilities, Young has been responsible for developing strategic partnerships with producers as well as financial, and distribution partners, generating co-development agreements and the acquisition of intellectual property rights. He also helped negotiate multiple production deals for the studio. Young is an alumnus of KPMG and held CFO positions with two major Canadian companies prior to joining Starz Animation Toronto. He is a native of Mount Pearl, NF. A division of Liberty Media’s Starz Media, LLC, Starz Animation Toronto is Canada's leading high-quality digital animation studio, providing major Hollywood studios and independent producers alike with world-class computer-animated content for feature films, DVDs, television series, commercials, visual effects and shorts.
