About GIG

Ontario schools produce great talent, and our industry provides great opportunities. The purpose of IO's go into games (GIG) series is to help build relationships between Ontario's education system and video gaming industry by bringing industry professionals into classrooms across Ontario.

GIG will provide students who are studying video game development and related courses an opportunity to connect with professionals currently working in the field.

GIG also allows business leaders to form relationships with students who will become their future employees and educates students about the types of employment opportunities that exist

Keith Makse, President, Cerebral Vortex Games

Keith Makse has been involved in the game industry starting with his co-ownership of a game store in St. Catharines, Ontario. Keith was recognized for his abilities in creating games and his attention to detail working on a variety of high quality titles, including Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.

Exploring other opportunities in the video game industry, Keith noticed the need for a Canadian version of Gamefly, an online video game rental service, and created GetGames.ca, which is in successful operation since May 2005. Keith has also been an instructor of video games at the International Academy of Design & Technology. While teaching, Keith met his like-minded partners, and quickly got back into development with Cerebral Vortex Games’ first title Ambush! Trivia, which was a Finalist in Telefilm Canada’s Great Canadian Video Game Competition.

Keith has lead the company in the casual game space with Ice Cream Dee Lites, Word Burst, and the recently released Mysterious Worlds: The Secret of Oak Island (#1 game on iWin.com May 28, 2009). Keith is also directing the company with further development in the mobile game space with their game Ghost Breaker, one of the few video games receiving OMDC’s Screen Content Initiative Funding.

Cerebral Vortex Games:

Established in October 2006, the St. Catharines, Ontario-based Cerebral Vortex Games is a developer of games for casual audiences. Previous titles developed by CVG include Word Burst and the click management game Ice Cream Dee-Lites, which are available at the company's website.

Cerebral Vortex Games' premier title, Ambush Trivia, was a finalist in Telefilm's Great Canadian Video Game Competition.

The GIG series is part of a larger "GameON" (GameOntario) effort by Interactive Ontario to connect and promote the Educational and Games Industries in Ontario. GameON is made possible through the Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund, administered by the OMDC, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture.
